I made my Basic B*tch Green Smoothie (lol) this morning. About six years ago, my brother, Austin, told me about this cool machine called a Vitamix, and he told me you could blend lots of fruit together with greens to make a healthy breakfast. It seems funny now to think that there was a time in my life where I had never made a green smoothie. I remember being weirded out and nervous about putting greens in my blender.
Austin recommended some ingredients to use in my first smoothie, and this is almost exactly the same recipe I first made many years ago. I often go back to it because it uses ingredients that I always have on hand, and it’s sweet!
Only by the color will you detect greens. The whole fruits in this recipe disguise the leafy green flavor. It’s quite delicious and a great way to wake you up in the morning!
One important rule of thumb for making green smoothies (or any raw food that contains greens for that fact)… Always add a little healthy fat along with your raw greens. Fat content helps your body absorb the nutrients from the greens! If you’re eating them, you might as well be getting all of their value!
Enjoy y’all!
