Hair Pro Approved: 8 Daily Rituals for Healthy Hair Growth
Here’s the quick list. Keep scrolling to read about each ritual in-depth (how it’s done, why it’s effective, etc.) –

- Take Non-Toxic Supplements & Vitamins that help grow your hair and make your hair healthy
- Daily Shampoo + stop using dry shampoos (they clog the follicle)
- Apply Oils & Essential Oils before showering to promote circulation and cleanse the scalp
- Do a Daily Scalp Massage (ideally with your fave oils + essential oils)

- After showering, use a good clean hair serum (like Young Living’s Mirah Hair Oil), then comb your wet hair out with a wide tooth comb
- Engage in calming, enjoyable stress relief practices every day
- Incorporate whole foods & healthy fats into your meals

Using these Rituals to Create a Hair Care Routine:
Where focus goes, energy flows! Create a daily hair ritual until you achieve the results you desire (thanks to a little bit of manifestation magic and a whole lotta intentional care).
5 out of 8 of the rituals listed above can be done back to back. Here’s an example-
- One hour after dinner, take your Sulfurzyme supplement drink
- Before showering, make your favorite oil + essential oil combo and give yourself a nice juicy scalp massage. Let the oils sit for 10 minutes and repeat your favorite hair growth affirmations.
- Hop in the shower and rinse out the oil mask using a gentle daily shampoo + conditioner
- After your shower, apply a clean hair serum and comb your hair with a wide tooth comb

The Rituals Explained:
1. Take Non-toxic Supplements & Vitamins: Sulfurzyme, B Vitamins, Antioxidants & Multi’s
Young Living’s Sulfurzyme Powder: For Cellular Health & Hair Growth
This is a potent sulfur supplement, and what every hair pro knows is that Sulfur-rich foods (like onions / leeks/ garlic) are needed for proper hair growth. Use 2x a day, 1/2 tsp mixed in cool water! It tastes great but if you prefer, they also come in capsule form.
Young Living’s Super B™ (B Complex): For Hair Health & Shine
I prefer the Young Living B complex supplement to others because it contains all eight B vitamins and bioavailable chelated minerals + it’s NOT too much Vitamins B7 aka Biotin, which many people overdo! Something I learned from a makeup artist is that Biotin can cause Cystic acne in some people, especially when one overdoses on the Biotin – I mentioned this to a few of my hair clients that were struggling w/acne and they stopped their biotin for 3 months and their skin cleared up. Vitamins are great, and they have their place, but in my opinion, biotin is one of those isolated vitamins that gets really over-marketed on social media with influencers promising that you’ll have long hair if you chew their biotin gummy, and it’s an easy thing to get caught up in and very easy to over do.
Anyways, that’s my long rant on why I cringe a little when people say they take biotin, and I lean toward a B Complex that has a nice variety of your B’s to not only promote healthy hair, but also a pleasant mood, and promotes energy. (yay for all of that)
Let’s simply agree that healthy, adequate levels of B in your system is a non-negotiable if you want strong and glossy strands!

Young Living’s Ningxia Red Juice: For Cellular Health & A Daily Antioxidant Boost
This bad boy packs a punch! It is full to the brim with antioxidants and superfoods. NingXia Red contains wolfberry, plum, aronia, cherry, blueberry, and pomegranate juices and extracts, as well as a blend of premium essential oils, including: Orange, Yuzu, Lemon, and Tangerine. These ingredients combined help prevent oxidative stress and support normal cellular function. I like carrying the little individual Ningxia pouches with me throughout the day and having one as a quick energy boost. My hair has been so happy since I started consuming these on the reg.
And of course a good multi-vitamin to round it all out!

2. Daily Shampoo + stop using dry shampoos (they clog the follicle)
There’s a myth floating around the internet that says washing your hair every day causes hair loss. FALSE, false false my friend. Well, it can if you’re using the wrong shampoo- but do yourself a favor and keep reading.
According to trichologists, cleansing the scalp and hair daily with a shampoo that has a mild cleanser will in fact support hair growth. We lose 80-100 hairs daily, and a daily shampoo helps hairs that have shed to be released SO THAT new hairs can replace them. Hairs are constantly being regenerated, so the hairs that have naturally reached their “fallout” stage of the cycle need to move out of the way. Cleansing your hair and scalp through a daily shampoo is necessary to remove dirt, oils, and product buildup – all the while creating a healthy environment for hair to continue to grow. Healthy hair growth starts with a healthy scalp. This cannot be overemphasized. So go forth and wash your hair with confidence, my darling!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Your shampoo of choice matters.
Not all shampoos are created equal, and it’s important to make sure that the shampoo you use is suited for daily use (as well as your hair type + scalp’s individual needs). If the shampoo contains a cleanser or detergent that is too strong for the scalp, it can dry the absolute shit out of your hair- and continuing to use this kind of harsh shampoo can strip the hair of its healthy oils.
Alternatively, shampoo that lacks adequate cleansing ingredients means that it will not effectively cleanse the scalp of oils, dirt, and product buildout. Over time, not properly cleansing the scalp can led to excessive hair shedding, oily dandruff, and even hair loss (which is totally all the things we are trying to avoid).
Which leaves us in a bit of a conundrum, huh?!
The key is a balanced level of oil on the hair and scalp to help maintain moisture + shine while preventing an overproduction of bacteria. Shampoos suited for daily use have a mild cleanser that will effectively cleanse the hair and scalp without causing an oil imbalance.
One shampoo I personally love for daily use is the Lavender Mint Clarifying Shampoo & Conditioner by Young Living (and I also LOVE the Copaiba Conditioner – it’s ultra moisturizing and perfect for dry, parched hair). It’s a gentle daily formula free of harsh sulfates, silicones, parabens, synthetic colors or fragrances, phthalates, DEA, or animal-derived ingredients.

3. Apply Oils & Essential Oils to promote circulation
Essential Oils (EO’s) are highly aromatic oils extracted from various types of botanical matter including plants, flowers, leaves, peels, barks, roots, and rinds. Each plant has its own form of inherent intelligence, and each plant has its own complicated systems of communication. These communications are made possible by chemical messengers within the plant. These plant chemicals each have their own distinct tastes, colors, and aromas- and they all serve a purpose. Some chemicals smell sweet in order to attract pollinators- think flowers and bees. Some chemicals are released by plants to defend their territory. The various chemical (often protective) properties in plants are the fundamental reason why essential oils promote healing and work so effectively as natural remedies.

Essential oils are full of vitamins and nutrients that can nourish the hair and scalp. EO’s can stimulate hair growth, calm an inflamed scalp, and help remove product buildup. AND THEY SMELL SOOOO GOOD!
THE BEST ESSENTIAL OILS FOR HAIR GROWTH INCLUDE:
Rosemary, Tea tree, Lavender, Peppermint, Lemon, Thyme, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Lemongrass, and Clary Sage.

Let’s talk EO’s and Scalp Application Safety:
- For most people, the scalp contains a ton of hair follicles- and where there are more hair follicles, there are more opportunities for the oils and their molecules to enter our blood vessels. Always conduct a patch test before applying any EO mixture to your skin and/or scalp.
- EO’s make a powerful scalp treatment, but you want to make sure to mix them with a carrier oil before applying (whatever you prefer- jojoba, olive, etc.). Carrier oils are used to dilute essential oils before they are applied topically. They help carry the essential oils into the skin and help prevent adverse reactions (many essential oils are not suitable for direct skin application). This diluted concoction is more gentle AND more moisturizing, since carrier oils usually contain a high content of essential fatty acids. A general rule of thumb is five to eight drops of essential oils for every tablespoon of carrier oil.
- You can use many kinds of carrier oil, I typically like to use YL’s V6 veg oil, but if I want a clear colored oil, I will use fractionated coconut oil.
THE BEST CARRIER OILS FOR HAIR HEALTH: Sweet Almond Oil, Argan, Jojoba, Olive, Black Castor, and Avocado.

Buying the Right Oils & Essential Oils for Your Hair
It’s important to buy only high-quality oils.
When shopping for carrier oils, always opt for raw, organic, unrefined, virgin, grade A whenever possible. When it comes to essential oils, you only want EO’s that are 100% pure and you know where the plant actually came from (that’s why I always go with Young Living because of their “Seed To Seel” policy).
Synthetic reconstitutions of essential oils, often marketed as “fragrances,” use synthetically reproduced chemicals (usually petroleum derived) to recreate some of the properties found in nature. Usually, price is a good indication of quality. Significantly cheaper oils are often synthetically derived. You do not want to diffuse these or use them in any capacity, as artificial fragrances can be high in toxicity and can emit toxins into your direct environment.

Natural essential oils, while slightly better than synthetic fragrances, are often cut with chemical dilutants, alcohols or other fillers. Many companies do this in order to have a lower price point, so again the price of an oil is often good indication of quality. Additives and adulteration can be harmful to the body and greatly reduce the effectiveness of the oil. These are also not recommended for therapeutic use.
100% Pure, High Therapeutic Grade Oils are where it’s at! These are what bring the benefits.
Essential Oils that are 100% Pure and High, Therapeutic Grade are the gold standard for purity and potency. This standard requires precise care and effort to protect what nature has created, which correlates directly with the health-enhancing benefits you expect from essential oils. Only this level of quality can ensure the correct composition of the active natural compounds that give the essential oils the therapeutic properties. A 100% Pure, High-Therapeutic Grade essential oil is sourced directly from its native, natural habitat and is not contaminated from polluted soil or pesticides. It does not contain any fillers or artificial ingredients, as companies producing high grade therapeutic essential oils have very strict quality control.

Dr. Axe explains that, “…because the chemistry of pure essential oils retains the healing intent of the plants from which they originated, they manifest an ability to organize and balance our energies as well…“
In order for the human body to receive and retain the benefits of essential oils, we need the oils to be a pure transfer of their natural chemical properties.

4. Daily Scalp Massage
There are so many benefits to a good head and scalp massage. The first is that it releases stress, tension (stress is the #1 cause of hair loss BTW!), and can potentially lower blood pressure. Scalp massages have been shown to boost blood circulation and according to research, scalp massage increases hair thickness by stretching the cells of hair follicles (which in turn, stimulates the follicles to produce thicker hair). It’s also thought that a scalp massage may help dilate blood vessels beneath the skin, thereby encouraging hair growth.
To optimize the effectiveness and benefits of your oil + essential oil treatments, massage your oil combo in a gentle circular motion on the scalp. This technique may enhance your skin’s ability to absorb the delicious EO cocktail you’ve made. Aromatherapy and a scalp massage combined are going to be your fave part to your hair care routine ever.

5. Repeat Affirmations for Hair Growth
It sounds unconventional, but affirmations should absolutely be part of your natural hair care routine!
Here’s why:
When you work out with a personal trainer, they always emphasize the mind-muscle connection. It makes a huge when you exercise and think about the muscle or muscle group you are training. Barry’s explains it like this:
“The mind-muscle connection is… conscious, deliberate, and emphasized muscle {attention}. It requires you to focus the tension you create during a movement pattern specifically on the muscle or muscle group that should be working, and it makes all the difference between passively and actively moving the weight.”

In other words, the mind-muscle connection is about actively using your mind to engage your body – and it works.
Mindset matters. Self talk and the thoughts you think have the power to set off physiological reactions in the body. If you want a physical result, affirmations can help channel your awareness + focus + mental energy towards the manifestation of that outcome.
In this case, the outcome we’re talking about is HAIR GROWTH. So wherever / whenever it feels natural to you (in the shower as you wash your hair maybe? During your scalp massage? Or afterwards when you style your hair?)… repeat the following:
- My beautiful hair is growing longer and stronger every day
- I am growing the gorgeous hair I desire
- My scalp is clear, healthy, and happy, and my hair is growing quickly all over my head.
- I love taking great care of my hair! I am joyfully committed to my hair care routine
- I am growing a thick, full head of hair with luscious locks and shiny strands
- I am manifesting my dream hair length and doing everything I need to do to make it happen

6. After showering, use a clean hair serum like Young Living’s Mirah Hair Oil
Invest in a clean hair serum- it’s just worth it. Hate to break it to you, but coconut oil does not absorb into the hair shaft. It’s molecules are too large to penetrate. Mirah oil is perfect for those who struggle with dryness and could use extra moisture. It’s all natural, has a beautiful jasmine scent, and you’ll notice that just a couple drops make a difference! Wash your hair then while it’s still wet, apply your hair serum of choice to your midshaft and ends only. Then comb out your wet hair with a wide tooth comb (opting for a wide tooth will prevent breakage / unnecessary hair damage). Bonus points for using a crystal comb like THIS one! By the way, a clean hair serum is so superior to leave in conditioner.

7. Engage in calming, enjoyable stress relief practices every day
Did you know that stress is the #1 cause of hair loss?! Given how ubiquitous chronic stress is these days.. that’s a frightening stat and one a hair pro like myself just cannot gloss over. Consider stress relief and self care to be a non-negotiable part of your hair care routine! What feels good and relieves stress is highly personal, but I encourage you to find one thing you can do every day to unwind and reset. Exercise lowers cortisol levels (the stress hormone), as does yoga and stretching if you prefer something more chill. Saunas, hydrotherapy circuits at your local spa, reading, journaling, getting a massage, aromatherapy, going for a walk in nature, cuddling with your dog.. there are so many options!

8. Incorporate whole foods & healthy fats into your meals
Healthy hair needs proper nourishment. If you are omega 3 deficient, it will show! Proper nutrition (including healthy fats) is quintessential to your daily hair care routine. If you do all of the other rituals but are malnourished, your hard work will be in vain. Set yourself up for success by making healthy food choices every day.
Are you ready to grow your hair? Commit to a hair care routine using the rituals above and I promise you’ll hair will love it.

hello ashley i saw your blog about hair growth i also prefer to wash my hair every day but i blow dry it and i don’t want to because it is not good for your hair how do you do it after washing to dry it?
Hi Emily! There is nothing wrong with shampooing every day if you choose to. Yes, heat from the blow dryer on your hair daily could cause some dryness over time, but I’m curious.. 1) do you need to heat dry it daily? Are there any ways you could do styles that allow it to dry naturally? braids? or products to allow you to air dry? 2) Consider using a heat protectant that you apply and/or spray into the hair prior to blow drying. This dramatically decreases the effect of the heat on the hair strands. ALSO, turn your blow dryer down to the medium setting. 🙂
When I let my hair air dry, I either braid my hair and sleep in it overnight so it’s wavy the next day, I wear it in a middle part, low, slicked back pony (with a soft scrunchie that won’t damage my hair), or I apply a conditioning creme and just let it be!
