Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year. And while so many people struggle with anxiety, anxiety itself is still a bit shrouded in mystery.

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, “stress is a response to a threat in a situation. Anxiety is a reaction to that stress. Translation: Anxiety may be a physiological result of prolonged stress.
Many of us who struggle with anxiety aren’t aware of the link between anxiety and stress. We don’t know the origin of our symptom; and if you can’t clearly identify the root of a problem, it’s hard to problem-solve.
If anxiety is the body’s physiological response to prolonged stressful situations, the first step towards managing and minimizing anxious feelings is identifying what stressors are currently in your life. What lifestyle or circumstantial changes are within your power to make? What can you do TODAY to reduce the anxiety in your life? In order to properly identify the contributing stressor(s), you have to get really honest with yourself and dig deep to determine its origin(s).

Calming Anxiety Affirmations:
Everything is ok right now. I am safe. Everything is “figureoutable.” I breathe patience and ease into my heart now. I feel my feet on the floor, anchoring me into this safe space. I use my five senses to bring me into the present moment, and as I do so, my worries melt away. I am grounded. I am rooted. I am capable of handling whatever arises. My only job is to focus on what I can control, and the only thing I have control over is what’s happening inside, in the present moment. I let go of worry- the future is not my concern. I focus on the here and now, and right now, everything is ok. Everything always works out for the best, even if I can’t see it in that exact moment. I trust the process. The universe works like clockwork- every sunrise, sunset, and season is timed with perfect precision. I am part of this universe, so I trust that everything in my life will also unfold exactly as it’s meant to, and when it is meant to. I release and surrender now. Tranquility and peace envelop me now and they give me a nice warm hug. A calm, cool, and collected person is living inside of me, and they are taking the reins now. My worries sit back and relax in the passenger seat. My higher self is steering the car now. All is well in my world. I have my back, and my life is on my side. Allowing myself to feel good right now is a win-win. The greatest contribution I can make to myself, to others, and to the world around me, is my positive energy.
