In the spirit of my first blog, đź’„Lipstick and Berries🍓, and my old school smoothie posts, here is a new green smoothie recipe that’s a favorite in our home.
Summer is here, and there’s no better way to embrace the season than with a refreshing and nutritious green smoothie. This Summertime Green Smoothie is perfect for savoring summer. Packed with vibrant flavors and essential nutrients, this smoothie is a treat you’ll have in your weekly rotation.
This smoothie is a powerhouse of nutrients. The greens provide essential vitamins and minerals, while the tropical fruits add a burst of flavor and antioxidants. Plus, the coconut water and green tea ice cubes keep you hydrated and energized, making this smoothie the ultimate summer breakfast!
3 things you must do with your green smoothies:
💜Add Healthy Fats: Incorporate nuts, seeds, coconut, or avocado into your smoothies. Healthy fats are essential for nutrient absorption, especially from the greens. Without fat, your body won’t absorb as many nutrients, which is the whole point of drinking a green smoothie!
💜Add Citrus Like Lemon Juice: Adding a source of Vitamin C, like lemon juice, boosts iron absorption from the greens. Iron is crucial for energy and overall health, so don’t skip the citrus!
đź’ś Rotate Your Greens: To avoid a buildup of oxalic acid (a compound found in raw leafy greens that can be toxic in large amounts), rotate the greens you use. Try different greens like spinach, kale, romaine, Swiss chard, and green leaf. This variety not only prevents toxicity but also provides a broader range of nutrients.
Green Smoothie Ingredient Benefits
Spinach: A nutrient-dense leafy green rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as folate, iron, and calcium. Spinach is excellent for bone health, eye health, and boosting your immune system.
Pineapple: Loaded with vitamin C and manganese, pineapple supports the immune system, aids digestion with its natural enzymes, and provides anti-inflammatory benefits.
Mango: Rich in vitamins A and C, as well as fiber, mangoes promote healthy skin, support the immune system, and aid digestion.
Orange: Packed with vitamin C, oranges boost immune function, improve skin health, and provide antioxidants to combat free radicals.
Raw Coconut Butter: This is different than coconut oil! This has the fiber intact! Coconut butter has a creamy texture and healthy fats, including medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are quickly used by the body for energy.
Coconut Water: A hydrating base rich in electrolytes like potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Coconut water helps replenish fluids and maintain electrolyte balance.
Lemon: High in vitamin C, lemon juice aids iron absorption from the greens, supports immune function, and promotes digestive health.
Green Tea Ice Cubes: Packed with antioxidants, particularly catechins, green tea supports metabolism, enhances brain function, and provides a gentle energy boost.
It’s a simple, delicious way to enjoy the benefits of greens while indulging in the flavors of summer. Cheers to vibrant health and tasty treats!
