My mom took Lily and I to a southern plantation for afternoon tea. This plantation is named Hopsewee, and it was built in 1735.
I mean, seriously?! 1735? That’s insane.
Hopsewee was the birthplace of Thomas Lynch Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and served as a rice plantation. (I’m just freaking out over the history here)
Just recently they started offering an afternoon tea, so obviously I had to be there.
I mean, what’s a southern vaca without high tea on a plantation?! ✌????
Perfect for Tea Tuesday.
Isn’t looking a little southern belle? I loved her dress.
For tea time, we had their signature house blend, which is a mild black tea. Nothing fancy, but very delicious.
Momma Sheila had their Raspberry tea and that one was SO good too.
So I have found that everywhere I go has fried okra. A southern staple, I believe. (fried okra patties pictured)
I am not complaining though.
Give me fried okra any day.
Drinking tea is something that I am happy to introduce to Lily at a young age. Of course, she isn’t drinking it, but I think the culture around tea is a nice environment to raise a baby around. Tea drinking has a calming and peaceful nature and I want Lily to see tea drinking as a part of our lifestyle.

I am so grateful to be able to explore history with my little babe. Although she’s too young to remember being at the plantation, I am so happy to have these pictures to be able to share with her later.
