Welcome back to a very special Tea Tuesday & worldwide PSA. It is time to start making hot tea properly.
And it’s really a VERY simple process.
Check out the instagram video where I talk about this topic HERE!

I’ve had tea at SO many places in USA, UK, AUS, and let me tell you, barely any of them can make a great pot of tea; even the most prestigious places. Borderline it’s ok if it’s black tea or herbal. I mean, let’s be honest, it’s easier to cover the taste of bad tea if you’re adding cream & sugar to it. 😳
Using water that is TOO HOT can burn the tea leaves, while using water that is too cool can make your tea seem weak and bland (unless you’re cold-steeping, which is a totally different conversation).

Considering that TEA is the # 1 drink in the world other than water, it’s WILD that so many people just automatically pour boiling water on any kind of tea & let the leaves sit in the boiling water indefinitely like mushy tea soup. 🤢😱
- 💜 White Tea – 150°-185°F (3 mins)
- 💜 Green Tea – 160°-175°F (1-3 mins)
- 💜 Yellow Tea – 160°-175°F (1-3 mins)
- 💜 Oolong Tea – 180°-200°F (2-4 mins)
- 💜 Black Tea – 200°- 212°F (3-5mins)
- 💜 Puerh Tea – 212°F (5 mins)
- 💜 Herbals – 212°F (5-15 mins depending on the leaves / roots / flowers you’re using)
Above are approx temps & times. Some teas will differ slightly, but the moral of the story is that if you put boiling water on green tea and leave it sitting in the mug / teapot for a long time, it’ll taste like 💩. Tea is great. Let’s stop messing it up! It’s actually very simple to make!

Next time you go to a an afternoon tea venue & the place brings you a pot of green tea with the loose leaf leaves floating around in the pot with no way to remove them, send it back.
Cheers to delish tea from here on out – Ashley.
