Does anyone get excited about fall like I do? This time of year, I want to eat sweet potato – pumpkin – spiced everything! There is something about the slight chill in the air, cozy sweaters, and all the fragrant spices that make me feel warm and fuzzy inside…not to mention I love all the autumn colors!
This year I wanted to create a fall inspired smoothie with a unique twist. It comes as no surprise that I have had desserts on the brain this year… My ebook, Marvelous Milkshakes, displays my obsession for turning desserts into healthy shakes! (if you haven’t gotten your book yet, check it now – I promise, you’ll LOVE!)
I have a pumpkin pie shake in my ebook, so I decided to create a sweet potato pie smoothie for the blog! Growing up, my mom always made sweet potato pie for us. It was one of my favorite desserts ever; I actually even ate it for breakfast sometimes – No, seriously! (talk about eating dessert for breakfast) 🙂
Sweet potatoes are one of those healthy STARches (<<cute, right?!) that I eat almost everyday. Starches are foods like, potatoes, beans, rice, grains, squash, corn, lentils…. These foods are high enough in calories that they can become the center of a meal.
I actually LOVE sweet potatoes plain, but sometimes I like to change it up. As you know, I also love making smoothies, so what better idea than to make a holiday, starch – based drink!! This smoothie will keep you full and satisfied all morning.
Ohhh…I almost forgot to tell you about this smoothie’s secret ingredient: Rosemary!
Lets talk about Rosemary for a moment.
Rosemary is one of the healthiest culinary herbs in the whole world! It has been shown to reduce stress and also acts as an antidepressant. Rosemary is great for the brain! An ingredient in this herb called, carnosic acid, helps to fight off free radical damage to the brain. (So go eat ya some rosemary, smarties!)
I chose to put the leaves from one whole stem of rosemary into this smoothie. By doing this, the smoothie has a pleasantly strong rosemary flavor. Please adjust to your taste; you may want to start with just a little.
I also used Rosemary in this smoothie.
I hope you love this as much I do!! Enjoy.
